When a cavity forms on one of your front teeth, it can significantly impair the healthy appearance of your smile. This can be unsightly and even cause physical discomfort. At the same time, some of the teeth in the front of your mouth might have only a thin layer of tooth enamel.

This might mean that the cavity can’t viably be treated with a composite filling, applied at Dr. Afshin Azmoodeh’s Plano, Texas, clinic. In a situation like this, Dr. Afshin Azmoodeh might recommend replacing the entire tooth enamel layer with a crown made from dental-grade porcelain.

This special material can be shaded to look like bright white tooth enamel, thus mimicking the appearance of your original teeth.

Dr. Afshin Azmoodeh can usually perform this restoration with two separate appointments. After the area has been sufficiently numbed with Novocain, he will use a drill to remove the entire the tooth enamel layer.

Dr. Afshin Azmoodeh will prepare an impression of the abutment and all the related teeth in the area. This will be sent to a dental lab where the porcelain crown is custom made. A temporary crown will be secured onto the abutment to keep it safe.

You will need to come back for a second appointment, once the porcelain crown is ready, to have it cemented in place.

If you live in the Plano, Texas, area and you have a cavity on a tooth in your smile, you should call 214-227-1000 to seek treatment with Dr. Afshin Azmoodeh.
